DCC County Behaviour Support Service

Working with DCC was a vital part of the project from the start. This is at the very least from the practical point of view that, although theoretically, it would have been possible to run this project with any LEA, the one on my doorstep was obviously going to be the most convenient. By happy coincidence (always the best kind) DCC was in the early stages of considering the possibilities of using net-based systems to support home learners as a way of increasing the quality and quantity of home tuition. Some of the overall home-tuition aims can be seen in their policy document.

/ The DCC contribution \
Working with DCC's Home Tuition Support Officer, Liz McQueen, I was able to gain access to:
  • Two home tutors
  • Eight home tutored students
  • The loan of three computers
  • Part funding for AOL line time
  • Some funding for my own time and expenses
Beyond this it was important that I had the official backing of an LEA. This have me a lot more clout when I started to look for the other partners I needed. It also gave me an official status that made it possible to contact parents with confidence. It did, however, create a rather blurred position for me in terms of the tutors; it was never totally clear quite who was in charge and this did lead to problems outlined elsewhere.
