only connect - partners - SIR

SIR occupy a particular place in the project. They are not explicitly part of my dissertation but were added at the request of DCC. SIR provided access to their Edventure system which is an ILS (Integrated Learning System). SIR's take on this approach to computer aided learning is quite clever. The actual 'lessons' are held on a large bunch of CD ROMs but the management/tracking is done via the web. Thus the student signs onto the web for a few seconds while data is exchanged between their computer and SIR's central server. From then on they are instructed which CDs to place in their machine to do the tasks they choose from the range that has been set centrally.

The idea was that the students would have access to SIR's basic packages on both literacy and numeracy as a kind of background to all their other work. You'll find more on this in the Progress>Software section.
